On The Road Again

Published March 14, 2022

Hi everyone, just a quick announcement to let you know that we are about to be back on the road again! And it couldn't come soon enough after months of delays. At this very moment, I'm sitting in a Jeep dealership having a recall item repaired on Ruby and making sure she's ready for adventures. During the past few months, I've been rebuilding my overland kit - including things like solar power, sleeping bag, kitchen kit, recovery gear, etc. - in preparation for departure. We took a test run a few weeks ago and I think I've got a good set up that will serve us across all four seasons.

A few things from my overland kit.

So, where are we headed? First south, then east, then north and east again. I'm doing a tour of North America over the next twelve months or so. I plan to spend some time in the American Southwest then move up toward the Midwest, cross over into Canada and head toward New Foundland and Nova Scotia and then explore the eastern seashore and New England. I'm really excited to see places I've never been, like the Grand Canyon and the massive redwood trees in Northern California. My plans are loose, the way I like them. I know my general direction but I like keeping things flexible so I can take my time, explore further within an area, or take a detour if I want.

Ozzie is still recovering from surgery on his elbow, he had a low grade, cancerous tumor removed. It's healing well but won't be fully completed by the time we leave so I've been preparing for his needs as well. He knows something is coming because he's extra anxious every time I leave the house. He doesn't want to miss out on any adventures!

You can see his medical journey on his Instagram account @ozbomom. Check his Surgery highlight to see a video of him after he'd moved his pen the length of our living room and tried to head down the hall toward the back door. He was upset we'd left without him. Silly dog.

I'll be keeping you updated on my experiences here and on Instagram (@vandrarphoto). We'll be leaving in a couple weeks so stay tuned.
